He graduated from Leavenworth High School and attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Van married Barbara Gurwell of Wichita on May 26, 1963 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Leavenworth.
He was an Inspector with the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Van is survived by his wife, Barbara and a brother, Omar L. Gordon Jr. of Liberty, Missouri.
A memorial has been established with Hospice of Wichita.
Services at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial at Resthaven Cemetery, Wichita.
