Emma L Potts, 68 of Leavenworth, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at St. John Hospital .
Emma was born January 17, 1937 in Leavenworth, the daughter of Alfred D. and Janelle (Harris) Blanton, who preceded her in death. She attended the Leavenworth school system and graduated from Leavenworth High School . She married John E. Potts on March 29, 1959 in Leavenworth ; he survives of the home. He was in the Army, and she enjoyed traveling with him during his tours of duty.
She was a lifelong member of the First Missionary Baptist Church , serving in the choir and as an usher. Emma received an award from the church for her 50 years of service. She will be greatly missed by her church family. She had a passion for Bingo and participated in many senior citizen activities, and enjoyed working for the Council on Aging.
Emma is survived by one son, John (Kim) Potts and two grandchildren, Juaan and Kayla, of Leavenworth .
She is also survived by cousins: Doris Ann Morris and family of Tulsa , Okla. ; William and Shirley Smith and family of Leavenworth ; and the Furch family, also of Leavenworth . Other close survivors include Rev. and Mrs. Jeff Baxter, two brothers-in-law, Huston Potts and Eddie Hawkins, two sisters -in-law, Ann Draper and Vennie Draper. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Blanton Furch (LHS Class of 1952).
Funeral services will be 11am Monday, December 19, 2005 at the First Missionary Baptist Church , Leavenworth . Viewing will begin at 9am at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery . Memorials are suggested to the First Missionary Baptist Church .
