Jerry Crancer - LHS Class of 1951

Col. John W. “Jerry” Crancer (retired), 72, College Station, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2006.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station, Texas. Visitation was on Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Burial with full military honors will be at College Station Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 18, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Okla. He graduated from West Point in 1955 and served in the U.S. Army for 26 years. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. After his retirement from the Army, he served as the vice president and manager of an Oil Field Service Company in Lafayette, La. He and his wife Dorothy moved to College Station after his retirement in December 2002. He is a member of the Pebble Creek Country Club, the A and M Quarter Back Club, and St. Thomas Catholic Church in College Station.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Crancer of College Station; one son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Catherine Crancer III of Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Teresa Jenkins Crancer of Memphis, Tenn., Helen Margaret and Steve Schreiner of Wilbraham, Ma., and Ann Elizabeth and Shawn Raborn of LaGrange, Texas; eight grandchildren, Patrick Raborn, Christopher Raborn, Madeleine Crancer, Audrey Crancer, Philip Schreiner, Marina Schreiner, Elise Schreiner and Anna Schreiner; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Elizabeth Darrah Hall of Memphis, and Rita Jane and Lamar Weaver of Leavenworth.
Memorials may be made to "Our Faith, Our Legacy" in care of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 2541 Earl Rudder Freeway, College Station, TX 77845.

  1. I worked with John for 12 years and he taught me to be the business person I am today. Everything was military and attention to detail, but I am always proud of my work now and I owe it to him wanting the best. He pushed me to be better then average. Dorothy, I just found out and would have gone to the service if I would have known. Kim said the same. We will keep John and your family in our prayers. I had a great amount of respect for him.
