Lou Ellen Mae Poff

Lou Ellen M. Poff, 68, of Leavenworth, passed over the Jordan to be with her sweet savior Jesus Christ on April 3, 2010.
She worked for the Leavenworth Schools for ten years as a cook / baker at Howard Wilson School. She also worked for St. John Hospital a supervisor of the kitchen staff for seven years. Her final job was with Homestead Assisted Living Center on Hughes Road. Lou was loved by all the residents for her wonderful meals and companionship she gave to them all.
She was an active member of Southern Heights United Methodist Church. Her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ will miss her presence, her love of music and faithfulness in God. She was inspirational in making sure her family abides in the Lord. Even with her failing health she had a smile and great love for the congregation.
Lou was an avid bowler at Crown Lanes. She won numerous trophies and patches through her years.
She was also a collector of porcelain dolls and treasured them all. Her wishes were to give them to all of her granddaughters and great granddaughters in the hopes that they would all love them as much as she did.
Her greatest passion was cooking and she never let anyone go away from her table hungry. Throughout the years, she undoubtedly served hundreds of her children’s and husband’s friends and also with her outreach, touched those that just needed a meal.
She is preceded in death by her father Kenneth Martin; her mother Nancy Martin Brushwood; and a sister Bonnie Bartlett.
She leaves behind her husband of fifty years Jerry Poff (LHS Class of 1957); her four children Nancy Thomas-Rash (LHS Class of 1978), Christine Hamilton and husband Gary, Karen McKee (LHS Class of 1982) and husband Adrian, and Vincent Poff and wife Sue, all of Leavenworth; thirteen grandchildren, and twenty four great grandchildren, and one sister Frances Schmidt of Grand Haven, MI.
Lou will be truly missed by her friends and all who knew her.
Her family will miss her warm, loving heart, her faith in Jesus, her smile, and the strength and support she gave them all. Until we met again crossing over Jordan with outstretched arms, she awaits.
