Ted Heim - LHS Class of 1949

Not a lot of people these days can say they saw John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil play baseball, for the baseball legend played from 1937 to 1955.
However, Topekan Ted Heim is one of the lucky individuals to see the Negro Leagues star in action.
The 80-year-old Heim had the pleasure to see O’Neil in 1946 — before integration — at Blues Stadium (later called Municipal Stadium) in Kansas City in an All-Star game between teams led by Satchel Paige and Bob Feller.
On Thursday night, he’ll have a chance to be connected with O’Neil again when he is honored at the Kansas City Royals game in the Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat.
