Opal O. Rice Simmons Nelson, Lansing, Kansas passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012.Opal was born March 7,1932, in Easton, Kansas the daughter of Ora M. Rice and Emma Baker.
She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1950 and married Louis Gene Simmons on February 24,1951. He preceded her in death on October 20,1963.
Opal married Harold Lewis Nelson on June 4,1965.
She is survived by her husband Harold, one son, Louis Gene Simmons Jr. and wife Cindy, three grandchildren, Louis Gene Simmons III, Shaundra Louise Simmons, and Nelson Michael Simmons and wife Rachel, two great granddaughters, Kelsey Leigh Simmons and Lisa Ann Simmons, and several nieces and nephews. Seven sisters preceded her in death Katharn Donald, Rose Bromley, Nora Feverly, Pearl Rice, Florence Westenberger, Lena Rice, and Ora (Doll) Manthe and her parents.
Opal worked at Herber's Card and Gifts Shop, Glove Factory and Hallmark Cards. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M Sunday, October 28, 2012 At the Davis Funeral Chapel, funeral service will be held 10 A.M Monday, October 29, 2012 at the funeral chapel.
Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Northwest Baptist Church, 503 S. 18th Street, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
