Cleo Sherman Wells - LHS Class of 1951

Cleo A. Wells, 80, of Leavenworth, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Monday, November 26, 2012, surrounded by family. 
Cleo was born May 15, 1932, in Leavenworth, KS, the daughter of Manford and Florence Sherman. 
She attended Leavenworth schools, graduating from Leavenworth Senior High School in 1951. 
Cleo married John David Wells (LHS Class of 1947) on June 10, 1951, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Leavenworth. 
She had a long and distinguished career working for the United States Disciplinary Barracks from May 1952 until May 1982. After her retirement, Cleo worked part-time for Gene’s Pharmacy, Leavenworth, for over ten years. In both occupations, Cleo was a dedicated, hardworking employee whose love for her work and the people whose lives she touched was especially noteworthy. 
A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Leavenworth, Cleo’s faith and servanthood led to her service at Trinity House and to her delivering communion to shut-in’s with the pastor. Cleo’s love of life and people were evident in her fun-loving spirit, kindness, and loyalty to her friends and family. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Bruce D. Wells. She is survived by her husband, John D. Wells; sister Ellie Gower, Topeka; brother Sid Sherman, Topeka; sons Mike Wells (Shirley), Rose Hill and Eric Wells (Vicki) Leavenworth; daughter Linda Larison, Leavenworth; daughter-in-law Susan Wells, Tonganoxie; grandchildren Jason (Rhonda) Gwartney, Angie Larison, Nate Wells, Lauren Wells, and Bret Larison (Alli), Molly-Ann Wells and Maggie Wells; and five great grandchildren. 
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Leavenworth. Funeral services will take place on Friday, November 30, at 10:00 a.m., also at Trinity Lutheran Church. Following the service, burial will be at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. 
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to a memorial which has been established with “Team Cleo” for the Ovarian Cancer Advocacy Network. Checks can be made payable to KU Endowment and directed to 3901 Rainbow Blvd., MS 2028, Kansas City, KS 66160.
