James William Powell III passed away on May 25, 2013 in Sacramento, California where had resided for 49 years.
He was born at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas on October 4, 1934 and attended local schools. After a career in the United States Army he retired as a Lt.Colonel.
James leaves his one daughter, Alexandra Williams (Garry D); two grandchildren, Garry S. Williams, Elaine Williams; three siblings, Linda M. Harbin-Washington (LHS Class of 1965) (Leon), Gary Powell (LHS Class of 1960) (Beverly), Edward Briggs; one aunt Ethel Jones (Robert); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Friends are welcome for visitation on Saturday, June 8, 2013, 1- 4 p.m. and to attend his service Monday, June 10, 2013, 3 p.m., both at Morgan Jones Chapel of Chimes, 4200 Broadway, Sacramento.
Friends in Kansas are welcome for visitation on Friday, June 14, 2013, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., at Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, Kansas. His burial will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road.
