Ann Steele, 79, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully July 4, 2013 at Saint Luke's Hospital. Graveside services will be private and held at 1 pm on Thursday, July 11. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 10 am at Second Presbyterian Church 318 E 55th Street, Kansas City, MO., 64113. There will be a reception at the church following services.
Ann was born on September 4, 1934 in Leavenworth, KS, daughter of Eugene and Margaret Kelly. She was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and attended the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She obtained a degree in journalism and after graduation became Director of Publications at the University of Kansas City. During this time she married her husband, Don, an attorney in Kansas City. They traveled the world together and recently celebrated having been lovingly married together for 50 years. They enjoyed entertaining and spending time together with family.
She also enjoyed volunteering with a number of local organizations and was dedicated to community involvement. After leaving her position at the University of Kansas City, she volunteered as a member of the Kansas City Symphony League. She was also involved with the Society of Fellows at the Nelson-Atkins Museum, the Lyric Opera League, the Kansas City Ballet Guild, the Fireside Committee of the Kansas City Art Institute, and was a Docent at the Kansas City Museum. Ann also enjoyed traveling throughout the world, playing golf, playing bridge, gardening and reading.
Ann is preceded in death by her sister, Ellen (LHS Class of 1958), and parents, Eugene and Margaret. She is survived by her husband, Don, and son, Mark, living in Atlanta, GA. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to any of the above local organizations, Second Presbyterian Church, or a charity of one's choice.
