Jim Kenny - LHS Class of 1954

James Andrew Kenny, 77, formally of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 7:35 p.m. after a hard fought battle with lung cancer, with his family by his side. 
James was born March 28, 1936, in Leavenworth, the son of John and Emmeretta (Hallaux) Kenny. 
James graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1954 and then served four years with the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. 

On April 18, 1959, James married Marie Elizabeth Wagner. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his children, Kathy L. (Rob) Smith of Kansas City, Mo., Christopher Kenny of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Kelly M. (Larry) Schneider of Kansas City, Kan.; grandchildren, Scott and Victoria Fladung of Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonya Fladung of Kansas City, Mo., Cody Mohan and Cole Mohan of Lansing, Kan., Kendra Schneider of Kansas City, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Skylee Meadows, Olivia Fladung and Claire Fladung; siblings, Joan Seymour (LHS Class of 1951) of Springfield, Mo. and Mike Kenny (LHS Class of 1962) of Leavenworth. 

James grew up in Leavenworth and was well known throughout the Leavenworth Community. He retired from the United States Penitentiary of Leavenworth in August of 1991 and relocated to Wheatland, Mo. in 1998. James was a life long member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a member of the Eagles and American Legion. He was also an avid lover of golf, gardening and the KU Jayhawks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Kenneth Kenny (LHS Class of 1943) and Gene Kenny (LHS Class of 1945); two sisters Louetta Baskas (Attended LHS) and Darlene Mann (LHS Class of 1949). 

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. David McEvoy O.Carm., as celebrant. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you donate to Community Living Opportunities or Hospice.
