Leo Wacker - LHS Class of 1952

Leo F. Wacker, 80, of Leavenworth passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 11, 1934, in Leavenworth, the son of Leo Conrad and Frances Theresa (Mura) Wacker.
On Jan. 15, 1958, he married, Genevieve Yvonne “Genny” Price at St. Joseph Church in Leavenworth. She survived of the home. They were married for 56 years. He is also survived by his seven children; Teresa and Mark Smith of DeSoto Kan., Cindy and Mark Moore of Lansing, Kan., Joan and Chris Hockenbarger of McLouth, Kan., De Harper of Lansing, Kan., Mary Wacker of DeSoto, Kan., Mike and Konda Wacker of St. Joseph, Mo. and Mark Wacker of Florence, Colo.; Leo has 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Robert Wacker (IMAC Class of 1954), George Wacker (IMAC Class of 1956) and Jimmy Wacker (IMAC Class of 1958); and a grandson, Neil Hockenbarger.
Leo was a member of the Eagles Aerie 55 in Leavenworth, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus. He was a past-president of the local Eagles Aerie and past-President of the Kansas State Eagles.
He served in the Navy. After discharge, Leo worked for Leavenworth County as a surveyor and building bridges and later as a Finish Carpenter. He had his own TV Repair shop for a while, then went to work for Directorate of Public Works at Fort Leavenworth as a Maintenance Engineer and was a certified electrician when he retired from DPW.
He loved growing tomatoes, grapes, mowing his lawn and feeding and watching the birds that flocked to his yard. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling and trips to Colorado. He made wood-working crafts and projects that he donated for charity fund raisers at different organizations.
Visitation beginning with praying the rosary will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Church with Rev. David McEvoy, O.Carm., as celebrant. Private burial will be Tuesday at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St Joseph Church, Alzheimer’s, or to Hospice Advantage of Overland Park.
