She was united in marriage to Jim VanVeghten on September 19, 1968 in Miami, Oklahoma; he preceded her in death on August 6, 2010.
Gloria worked at Louise Dress Shop in Leavenworth for 20 years. Her true passion was her grandchildren and she loved spending time with them. Gloria attended all of their events and loved them dearly.
Gloria passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, Iowa from cancer at the age of 72.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim, a daughter Kelly, and a brother Teddy Winchell.
Gloria is survived by a daughter Stephanie (Chad) Seuser and their five children; a son Gene (Renee) Pritchett and their four children; and two grandchildren AJ & Missy; two brothers: Charlie Winchell (LHS Class of 1956) and wife Peggy Pierce (LHS Class of 1955); and Dick Winchell (LHS Class of 1962) and wife Pauline Fevurly (LHS Class of 1963); three sisters: Judy (Jim) Owens (LHS Class of 1968), Sandy (Jim) Hampton (LHS Class of 1965) and Linda (Ray) Lee (LHS Class of 1970), and a sister-in-law Ann Marie Leeper (LHS Class of 1950).
Gloria will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Graveside Services will be Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 9 a.m., at Sunset Memory Gardens. Memorials may be directed to Alliance Against Family Violence.

James P. VanVeghten Jr., 67, of Dysart, Iowa, died Friday, August 6, 2010 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa, of congestive heart failure.
He was born June 28, 1943, in Leavenworth, Kansas, son of James P. and Anna Schwartz VanVeghten. He married Gloria Winchell (LHS Class of 1959) Sept. 19, 1968, in Miami, Oklahoma.
He graduated from Immaculata High School in Leavenworth. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-64. He was employed with Geiger Ready Mix for 33 years, retiring as plant manager in Leavenworth in 2005.
Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Stephanie (Chad) Seuser of Buckingham; four grandsons; and a sister, Ann Marie Leeper (LHS Class of 1950) of Leavenworth.
Preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters, Eileen "Sis" Nester and Dorothy "Tootie" Hulsey; and a brother-in-law, Robert Leeper.
Celebration of Life: will be held at a later date in Leavenworth. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.
