Allen Louis Finnell, 75, of Leavenworth passed away, Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at the University of Kansas Hospital.
He was born Nov. 27, 1938, in Ft. Leavenworth, Ks, the son of George and Mary (Schreiber) Finnell. He graduated from Immaculate High School in Leavenworth in 1957.
Al enlisted in the US Army in 1958 and retired in 1979 as a SFC. He was an interrogator and member of the Military Police. He served in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Germany. After retirement, he started working at Kansas State Penitentiary in Lansing, and then he worked as a deputy sheriff for the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s office. Later, he opened the Pullman Place diner in Leavenworth.
He loved Native American arts and crafts, trains, and motorcycles. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, Abate of Kansas, the Patriot Guard, HOG, and the American Legion Riders Post 23.
Al is survived by a son George Finnell, and two grandsons, Grey and Sam Finnell of Leadville, Colo., and a brother, John Finnell of Yuma, Arizona.
Graveside service with full military honors will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
