Alfred Charles (“Charlie”) Klotz, 73, died on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Leavenworth VA Hospice Center, where he was recently admitted.
Charlie was born August 21, 1941 in Leavenworth, Kansas. He was the son of Alfred Klotz and Mary Alice Corkery.
He attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1959.
He served in the United States Army from 1965 through 1968. Charlie was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with “A” Company, 589th Engineer Battalion, “Mountain Movers” from April 1967 to April 1968 and participated in the 1968 Tet Offensive. Following his military service he worked in Civil Service at Ft. Leavenworth until his retirement in 1986.
Charlie was a life-time member of the VFW, an avid motorcyclist, animal lover and sports enthusiast. He contributed to multiple animal and child welfare charities and had many long-time friends. If you were fortunate to call Charlie a friend, you were blessed to understand the meaning of a “true” friend, one with a genuine smile and an exceptionally big heart.
Charlie married Phyllis Lecure Ryan in 1959. Survivors include one daughter, Jeannie Schroeder and grandsons Darren and Daniel, all of Houston, TX; two brothers, John (Joy) of Mobile, AL and Tom (Mary) of Lenexa, KS; two sisters, Sharon Klotz of Lincoln, CA and Kathy Leary (Joe) of Olathe, KS; 7 nephews and nieces; 4 grand-nephews and -nieces.
Friends and family may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Belden Larkin Funeral Home in Leavenworth. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 9:00 AM, Friday, April 17, 2015 at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
