Donald Joseph Murray, 77, passed away at his home surrounded by family on April 24, 2015. Don was born Nov 2, 1937, in Leavenworth the son of Robert William and Catherine Frances (Klimcak) Murray.
He attended The Old Cathedral Grade School and graduated from Immaculata High School in l955.
On June 21, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Jo Knight (IMAC Class of 1955) and together they enjoyed 56 wonderful years together. They raised four children, Laura (Randy) Beeves, Pamela (James) Grosdidier, Brad (Laura) Murray, Bryan (Julie) Murray; and 11 grandchildren: Matthew, Kristen, Charissa, Lauren and Karah Beeves; Raymond and Robert Grosdidier; Meghan and Sean Murray; Will and Patrick Murray. He is also survived by brothers, Dale(Beth Ann - IMAC Class of 1954) (IMAC Class of 1953) and David(Kathy) (IMAC Class of 1960); sister, Barbara (Ernie) Eller; sister-in-laws, Betty Pierron and Pat Knight; and several nieces and nephews.
Don served four years in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Department of Army civilian with 42 years of government service.
He was an active and dedicated member of his church and volunteered throughout his life. He was a member of NARFE, Knights of Columbus for almost 50 years and was the Grand Marshal of the 2013 St Patrick Day parade.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Church, 711 N. 5th St, Leavenworth, KS, with a vigil service led by Rev. William McEvoy. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. David McEvoy O.Carm., as celebrant. Burial with Air Force honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Church or NARFE Alzheimer's research.
