Frederick L. "Babe" Murawski, 81, November 6, 2015, at 9:51 pm, Fred departed this world at his home with his family by his side, to be with his Heavenly Father after suffering a brief time with pancreatic cancer.
He was born on July 28, 1934, to John and Merie (Lallier) Murawski.
When he was a teenager, Fred began working with his father in the construction business, building houses. After graduation from Leavenworth High School in 1952, he continued to develop his carpentry skills while working with his father.
In 1956, Fred was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Korea with the engineers. After four years of service, he received his honorable discharge, returned home and resumed construction work with his father. A few years later, he began working for Besel; remodeling houses, building new homes and duplexes.
In 1977, Fred received a Civil Service appointment at Fort Leavenworth as a carpenter and later was assigned to the engineers. He was promoted to supervisor over the carpentry, masonry and locksmiths shops and later became a planner/estimator for the Post.
Fred was later selected to become the leading engineer inside the Fort Leavenworth Disciplinary Barracks walls, supervising several civilians, military personnel and inmates. He remained the leading engineer at the DB until his retirement on May 2000, with 23 years of service.
On June 6, 1959, Fred married his best friend and love Mary Finneran, at St. Joseph Church with the Reverend Adrian Lickteig officiating. Through this union, they had three sons, Kevin Michael (Linda), Leavenworth, Kenneth Lee (Nympha), Leavenworth, and David Alan (Kristin), Savage, MN. They also have two granddaughters Allison Murawski, Savage, MN and Leilani Murawski, Leavenworth.  Fred and Mary celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Fred is survived by his wife, sons, granddaughters, brothers Gary (Linda) Murawski (LHS Class of 1962), Donald Murawski, brothers-in-law Phil Brown (LHS Class of 1950), John Rettig and sisters–in-law Pat Rettig (LHS Class of 1963) and Mary Finneran, sixteen nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward "Sonny" Murawski, sister Anna Merie Brown (LHS Class of 1948) and brother-in-law John Finneran Jr.
Besides enjoying his granddaughters, Fred enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling, and golfing. Highlights of his life include bowling a perfect 300 game and having a hole-in-one in golf. He was a Golden Eagles Aerie 55 member, life member of the VFW, a member of American Legion SAL and a member of the Eagles Bowling Team, Justice.
