Carol Elizabeth Norris, 82, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Leavenworth, died Sunday, August 5, 2018 at F.W. Huston Medical Center in Winchester after a long illness. She was born May 16, 1936 in Leavenworth, the daughter of Robert Wesley and Coy Mae Snyder Norris.
She was a 1954 graduate of Leavenworth High School and was a graduate of Central Bible College, Springfield, MO, earning a BA degree in Bible Studies. She also earned a BS degree in Education at Emporia State University.
Carol was a School Teacher in the Easton School District and in Muscotah 28 years before retiring. She was ordained as a minister in 1973 and served as a home missionary for Native Americans for many years. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Leavenworth and served as a Sunday School Teacher 33 years. She was a member of the Kansas Education Association and the National Education Association. Carol was listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers.
She is survived by one sister, Naomi (Bob) Flowers (LHS Class of 1952), Oskaloosa, two nephews, James Wesley Norris, Chicago, Joel Bradley Norris, Wichita, and a cousin, Beverly Kincaid, Beverly, MO. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon W. Norris and Alvin Norris, and one sister, Roberta Scroggs.
Graveside Services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Sunset Memory Gardens, Leavenworth. Miss Norris will lie in state after 9:00 AM, Friday at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa.
