Notes from Babs

Hello Classmates,
Almost a year ago, November 2017, Jim Oliver passed away.  Peggy, his wife, and 2 children came to Leavenworth several weeks ago in September to place Jim's ashes with his parents at Sunset Memory Gardens.  Peggy called Albert and me and asked if we would come to share this time with them.  She also asked if we would contact Dwight and Linda Gillespie to see if they could come too.  I was able to talk to Dwight and he said he and Linda would be there.  It was a sunny day with a slight chill in the air.  Peggy along with their two children, Jennifer and Conley, prepared some thoughts and poems and had pictures to share.  After the readings they placed items in a lovely box and placed it in the place prepared.  Dwight and Albert had some memories of Jim that they shared with us.  We had lots of laughter as we recalled events.  Since Jim was coming home to Kansas, I brought a bouquet of sunflowers to leave at the graveside.
When all was finished, Peggy treated us to breakfast at Pullman's in downtown Leavenworth. We sat at the "train table" which was very appropriate as Jim was a miniature train enthusiast.  Jennifer had wonderful pictures of Jim throughout his life that she shared with us.  Jim had many interests and lived life to its fullest.
I talked to Joane Manney Wyrick last week.  She is doing fine.  She moved to a retirement facility a little over a year ago and loves it.  If any of you would like to send her a note or card, her address is:  Park Summit, 8500 Royal Palm Blvd., Coral Springs, FL 33065
There are 3 October birthdays in our family.  So everyone is coming to our place for dinner next Sunday.  It is always fun when we all get together.  Albert will be 86 on the 18th and our daughter Lori will be 63 on Halloween.  Our newest family member, Matt, married our granddaughter, Annie, January 2017, and he will be 36.  He fits right in and will bring some pulled pork for the dinner.  Everyone pitches in and it makes it easy.
I am still holding my own.  Having scans, biopsies and blood work regularly.  My oncologist says there is (NED), no evidence of disease at this time. I pray daily for healing and give God the glory for this time I have been given.
Cold weather is on our doorstep.  Freezing temps several nights this week.  Yikes, Christmas is coming!
