Duane L. Reed, 85, died Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Lees Summit, Missouri. He was born on May, 22, 1934, in the family home in Easton, Kansas, the son of John Wesley Reed and Opal Ceola (White) Reed.
On August 25, 1972, Duane married Nancy (Lawrence) Wagner, who survives the home. The ceremony took place at Jefferson County Courthouse with all nine of their children in attendance. From this marriage survives eight children, Duane (Wes) Reed, Jackie (Jeff) Crisp, Kristina Lyons, Karen (Jeff) Logan, Linda (Paul) Biever, Vickie Pierron, Barbara (Tony) Rush, John (Sharon) Wagner, and son-in-law, Bill Howard. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and countless friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lewis Gordon Reed, daughter, Jacqueline (Wagner) Howard, and grandson, Travis Wayne Pierron.
Duane led a full life with his rambunctious family and friends. He enjoyed hunting pheasant, quail, turkey, and deer; fishing; and coaching softball and baseball. He loved to fish in Canada and on many local creeks. He also regularly played the Schafkopf, "the supreme discipline of Bavarian card games," with all his buddies. He treasured watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren participate in sports and all other activities.
Duane graduated in 1952 from Easton Rural High School with a class of nine graduates. He began his career at Good John’s Sash and Door. Then he owned and operated Easton Locker Plant from 1966 to 1996. Later he worked at the Leavenworth County Shop from 2001 until he retired in 2011.
Visitation will be 9 – 11 am Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Davis Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 11 am, followed by burial at Easton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Lawrence Cemetery or Easton Youth Activities. Condolences may be left on Duane's online guestbook.
