Joanne Swearingen Chambers - LHS Class of 1950

Joanne Chambers, 87, of Leavenworth, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Twin Oaks Health and Rehab. Joanne was born July 14, 1932 in Leavenworth, the daughter of Vernon and Ruth Swearingen. On June 25, 1950 she married Calvin Chambers who preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Bruce Chambers, Alma, KS; a daughter, Peggy (Michael) Caltabiano, Parrish, FL; one granddaughter, Jennifer Herbek; four grandsons, Ryan Caltabiano, Todd, Eric and Chad Chambers; and nine great- grandchildren.
Joanne had worked as a transcriptionist for both Cushing and St. John Hospitals and as I.G. secretary at Fort Leavenworth from where she retired. She was a member of the Pilgrim Community Church.
Cremation is being handled by Davis Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Bruce Chambers in Alma, Kansas at a date to be determined.
