Robert Eugene Hessenflow died peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2021. He was born on March 16, 1934, to William Robert Hessenflow and Evelyn Madron Hessenflow in Weston, Missouri. He spent his early childhood in Weston, and then moved to Leavenworth, Kansas where he graduated high school in 1952.
Bob furthered his education by attending St. Mary’s College and the University of Kansas before working with his father in the family business, Hessenflow Painting and Decorating.
He excelled in sketching and had once considered being a commercial artist. Additionally, he served several years in the National Guard. He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball and was honored to be asked to join two farm baseball teams.
Bob married the love of his life, Patsy Marie Williams, on November, 20, 1955. After spending many years in California, they returned to Leavenworth which has been their home for 56 years.
He loved vacationing in California each winter and visiting his sister, Joyce. He also took pleasure in traveling, fishing and camping. Bob appreciated being part of the Jaycees of the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce and served on the Leavenworth school board. He was fond of spending time with family, joking with his grandchildren, watching sports and smoking his pipe.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Evelyn Hessenflow. He is survived by his wife, Pat, and their two sons, Jeffrey E. Hessenflow (Nora) and Gregory L. Hessenflow (Julie) along with five grandchildren, Matthew (Rita), Alyson, Claire, Paige and Grace; and one great-granddaughter, Evelyn. Bob is also survived by his sister, Joyce Hayes (LHS Class of 1956), and niece, Carrie Nall, Thousand Palms, California.
