Jolene Thomas Roberson, 81, passed away peacefully in her home, Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, after a long period of convalescence.
Soon after her birth on Feb. 22, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., she was placed in The Brown Foundling Home and was adopted as an infant by Jesse Polk and Grace Bryant (Stuart) Thomas of Leavenworth.
While in high school, Jolene moved to Southern California and graduated from high school in Los Angeles. She worked as a telephone operator and attended classes at California Polytechnic Institute, moving back to Leavenworth in 1953.
While working as a civil servant at Fort Leavenworth, Jolene met then-Lieutenant Thomas C. Roberson who was attending CGSG. They married in 1954 and spent the next 15 years as an army career family, eventually retiring in Leavenworth. She earned her bachelors in accounting from Troy State University (AL) in 1968.
Jolene was a seasonal tax accountant, active in Officers Wives Club and a Girl Scout troop leader.
The Robersons established a real estate firm in Leavenworth. Jolene worked as an accountant for the Leavenworth Times for over 20 years and established a ladies fashion boutique, The Sampler, in 1974.
She was also active in ABWA, the Republican Party and the Red Hat Society until recent years.
Jolene is survived by two daughters, Thoma (James) Parker of Nashville, Tenn. and Robin Stojanov of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Piero (Krystyn) Pecora, Alex Stojanov, Molly Parker and Lili Stojanov. Her first great grandchild is due in 2016.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to The American Lung Association or the Leavenworth County Humane Society.
