Carolyn Thomas Wrigley - LHS Class of 1958

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carolyn Kay Wrigley on Monday, May 25, 2020 after her ongoing battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in her daughter Danielle’s arms listening to her husband Charles sing their song.
Carolyn was born and raised in Leavenworth, Kansas. She was the daughter of the late William and Dolly Thomas, and preceded in death by her brothers Freddie (LHS Class of 1945), Alvin (LHS Class of 1950), and Bobby Thomas.
One of her favorite memories as a child was when she would meet her father on the railroad tracks on his way home from work and she would get whatever treat he left in his lunch box. She often spoke of this to her children.
She worked at Hallmark Cards, where she retired after more than 20 years. In her younger years, she enjoyed square dancing with Charles, watching birds, gardening, traveling, swimming, playing golf, going to the casino, and going on cruises with family.  They owned an RV park in Texas and lived back and forth between Lynn Valley Lake and Texas for many years.
Carolyn loved her family breakfasts at I-hop where she would always order the Rooty Tooty fresh ’N fruity. She also enjoyed ice-cream dates with her children at Dairy Queen. She kept in close contact with friends from high-school, and often met for monthly lunches which she cherished.
Carolyn was the beloved wife and best friend to Charles Wrigley of 43 years.
Before meeting Charles, Carolyn was a single mother who deeply loved her 4 children; Gene (Heike), Randy (Shelly), Danielle (Vernon), and Kevin (Oni).
She was an adoring Grandmother to Jeremy (Stacy), Aaron (Gayla), Leif (Jaimie), Brandy (Jeff), Jacqueline (Aaron), Cody, and Chealsey and proud great-grandmother to Penelope, Astrid, Milo, Abigail, Acacia, and Kaiser. She was passionate and proud of all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sisters, Charlotte Appleby (LHS Class of 1952), Ellen Byrd (LHS Class of 1956), and brother Russell Thomas (LHS Class of 1962). Carolyn is also fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many good friends including those whom she took under her wing, especially Phyllis Hamilton.
Carolyn was a loving, determined, and fiercely strong woman, who will be missed by many. The memories are endless, and she left a lasting impression on everyone she came in contact with.
Due to the COVID pandemic, the chapel is only able to accommodate 30 people at a time. The family asks that you please wear a mask and be aware of the occupancy standards. Notes from Babs

Hello Classmates,
Almost a year ago, November 2017, Jim Oliver passed away.  Peggy, his wife, and 2 children came to Leavenworth several weeks ago in September to place Jim's ashes with his parents at Sunset Memory Gardens.  Peggy called Albert and me and asked if we would come to share this time with them.  She also asked if we would contact Dwight and Linda Gillespie to see if they could come too.  I was able to talk to Dwight and he said he and Linda would be there.  It was a sunny day with a slight chill in the air.  Peggy along with their two children, Jennifer and Conley, prepared some thoughts and poems and had pictures to share.  After the readings they placed items in a lovely box and placed it in the place prepared.  Dwight and Albert had some memories of Jim that they shared with us.  We had lots of laughter as we recalled events.  Since Jim was coming home to Kansas, I brought a bouquet of sunflowers to leave at the graveside.
When all was finished, Peggy treated us to breakfast at Pullman's in downtown Leavenworth. We sat at the "train table" which was very appropriate as Jim was a miniature train enthusiast.  Jennifer had wonderful pictures of Jim throughout his life that she shared with us.  Jim had many interests and lived life to its fullest.
I talked to Joane Manney Wyrick last week.  She is doing fine.  She moved to a retirement facility a little over a year ago and loves it.  If any of you would like to send her a note or card, her address is:  Park Summit, 8500 Royal Palm Blvd., Coral Springs, FL 33065
There are 3 October birthdays in our family.  So everyone is coming to our place for dinner next Sunday.  It is always fun when we all get together.  Albert will be 86 on the 18th and our daughter Lori will be 63 on Halloween.  Our newest family member, Matt, married our granddaughter, Annie, January 2017, and he will be 36.  He fits right in and will bring some pulled pork for the dinner.  Everyone pitches in and it makes it easy.
I am still holding my own.  Having scans, biopsies and blood work regularly.  My oncologist says there is (NED), no evidence of disease at this time. I pray daily for healing and give God the glory for this time I have been given.
Cold weather is on our doorstep.  Freezing temps several nights this week.  Yikes, Christmas is coming!
