Tiny Jaster

Charles “Tiny” Edward Jaster, 82 of Leavenworth, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Leavenworth, the son of Berthold and Anna (Hensley) Jaster.
Tiny served our country in the Navy from 1956 to 1958, on the USS Herbert J. Thomas DDR and on the USS Cushing.
He spent most of his life creating custom built cabinets and building or remodeling homes. It was both his passion and his hobby. In the mid-1980s he purchased the Santa Fe Depot. He decided to restore it for the community to enjoy for years to come. It is proudly named on the National Historic Register. He also purchased the freight building at Broadway and Shawnee making it his “Shop”. His many friends and colleagues soon made it their gathering place, sharing decades of stories and memories together. His youngest sister, Joann became his nearly daily companion, reliving “the good old days”.
Tiny loved animals of all kinds, especially his beloved dog Buddy that spent years traveling from house to house with him.
He leaves behind his wife of over 60 years, JoAnn (Huffman) Jaster (LHS Class of 1954); daughters, Sherry Jaster-Brown and husband Don and Robin Jaster- Hungerbeeler and husband Lee; grandchildren, Aaron Krieger and wife Sarah, Nicole Hungerbeeler, Abigail Jaster and Josh Hungerbeeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Stephen Jaster; his siblings, infant- Bobby Jaster, Bert “Bud” Jaster, Louise Mitchum, Leonard Jaster, Lucille Dodson, Anna Marie Laurence and Lawrence Jaster.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan.27, 2016, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at noon Wednesday, at the funeral home with Rev. David McEvoy O.Carm., as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Tiny would want everyone to dress casually. All memorials should be directed to HOPE Spay and Neuter Clinic.
