Helen Kaeding-Alig, 85, passed away early Friday, May 13, 2016 at KU Medical Center where she had been in intensive care since May 8, 2016 for injuries suffered in a fall at her home. Helen was born Helen Corrine Stafford on September 15, 1930 to Lyle and Anna Marie (Ringlesby) Stafford. She married Bob Kaeding on March 17, 1947 in Leavenworth. Their life together was cut short when he preceded her in death on May 6, 1984. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill (Paula Lashley) Stafford and sister, Rose Marie (Jack) McClary. On July 3, 1996 she married William “Bob” Alig (IMAC Class of 1954) at St Francis DeSales Church in Lansing. She is survived by her husband,Bob, her son, Robert H “Pete” (Sandy) Kaeding, Jr. of Lansing and daughter, Julie Ann (Mark) Navinsky of Basehor. Helen is also survived by her four grandsons Clint (Katy) Kaeding of Overland Park, Brandon (Stephanie) Navinsky of Basehor, Brock Kaeding of Leavenworth and Sean Navinsky of Basehor. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren Charlie, Scarlett and Danny Kaeding, and James and Matthew Navinsky and many nieces and nephews of whom she was extremely proud and loved deeply. Helen worked many years at Leavenworth High School cafeteria where she had many close friends. She later volunteered in the gift shop at St John Hospital. She was also a very devout Catholic and long-time member of St Joseph parish. She loved watching her family members play sports – all sports. Helen loved “going”, whether on cruises or road trips or just drives around town to view Christmas lights or just go get a malt. She so enjoyed going to Arizona in the winter to visit with family there. She and second husband Bob traveled extensively on many cruises and trips abroad which she thoroughly loved. She also enjoyed card games, bingo and going to casinos, but her favorite times were when surrounded by her family who she loved dearly. Though preceded in death by many of her family and friends, she leaves behind many other wonderful friends and parishioners from St Joseph Church. She will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved her, but was blessed with over 85 years to enjoy those in her life who cared so much for her. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:30 PM with rosary at 6:00 at St Joseph Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will also be at St Joseph on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Leavenworth Regional Catholic Schools. Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be left on Helen’s online guestbook at www.davisfuneralchapelinc.com.
