Lorraine E. Medill, long time resident of Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday, May 8, 2016, at age 82. Lorraine recently lived in Mission, Kan. and was a faithful volunteer interviewer of people in need at the Redemptorist Social Services Center. She retired from Amoco Oil after nearly 30 years and was active in the Retirees Group. Lorraine travelled widely throughout the U.S., Europe, Russia and the Far East. She was an enthusiast of the local theatre and cultural scene, and a devoted Roman Catholic. She was a loyal friend and family member who loved and took an active interest in family.
Lorraine was born near Tonganoxie, Kan., to George Tabor, Sr. and Julia Marie (Riordan) Medill. She attended schools in the Leavenworth area, graduating from Immaculata High School and attending St. Mary College, before beginning her career with Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co, Midwest Research Institute and Standard Oil.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, brother, George Tabor Medill, Jr. (LHS Class of 1947) and sister Charlotte Powell.
She is survived by sisters Monica Russell of Libertyville, Ill. and Shirley Ruddy of Lawrence, Kan. and 11 nieces and nephews: George Tabor Medill, III, Deb Russell, Rheta Wagner, Lorrie Lawson, Julie Slater, Jennifer Edkins, Mike Medill, Rick Medill, Heidi McNally, William “Billy” Medill, and Tom Ruddy, their spouses and many grand nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Sacred Heart Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. at the church after the visitation. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Redemptorist Social Services Center, Kansas City, Mo. Arrangements by R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.
