Robert D. Beall Sr, 83 of Leavenworth, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 at Twin Oaks Health and Rehab. Center. He was born in Leavenworth, KS on Aug 3, 1933 to Thomas D. Beall and Antoinette Kurek.
Bob, who was the City Attorney for Leavenworth, Kansas for over 30 years, was preceded in death by his wife, Linda K. Beall and his brother Joseph Beall.
He is survived by his wife, Carol M. Beall, four children: Robert D. Beall Jr. (Carol) of Lansing, KS, Thomas E. Beall (Andrea) of Topeka, KS, Jane Krista Beckwith (Chris) of Tulsa, OK, and Jonathan D Beall (Heather) of Shawnee, KS, four step-children: Katherine Simmons of Lawrence, KS, Kimberly Anderson (Tim) of Lansing, KS. F. Samuel Minnich Jr., of Lansing, KS and Martin M. Minnich (Ashley) of Arroyo Grande, CA. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Oct. 15, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Leavenworth, KS with Pastor Tim Soule officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made for Alzheimer’s Research, Wayside Waifs in Kansas City, MO., or to First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel. Betty Peters Voelker - LHS Class of 1951

Betty was born January 10, 1933 in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of Wallace and Grace Peters. She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1951 and in 1954 married Loren J. Voelker in Leavenworth.
Betty worked as a medical secretary at the VA Center in Wadsworth, Kansas from 1952 to 1954. She also worked for Livermore High School in Livermore, California as a teacher’s aide from 1976 to 1982. She retired from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in October 1993 where she had worked as an administrative assistant since 1982.
Loren and Betty moved from Northern California to Minden, Nevada in 1995.
Betty was a member of the St. Gall's Parish in Gardnerville, Nevada. She enjoyed swimming, golf, traveling, and family functions.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Debra Voelker (deceased 2002).
Betty is survived by husband Loren; five sons, Keith and Kevin (twins), Mark, Matthew and David; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Burial will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Livermore, California.
Roland Hattock - Lansing HS Class of 1955
Roland L. Hattock, 78 of Lansing, Kansas passed away at his residence on September 19th, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Friday, September 23, 2016 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with Father Matthew Habiger officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Belden Larkin Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Lansing, Kansas.
Roland was born June 9, 1938 in Leavenworth, Kansas the son of Frank and Beatrice (Marchefski) Hattock, Sr. He graduated from Lansing High School in 1955 and then attended some college.
He married Joyce Webb August 8, 1959 in Atchison, Kansas.
Roland worked as a bricklayer for Alpha Masonry, Inc. for over 32 years as a foreman, and then a general superintendent. He retired after 35 years as a member of the local 15 KCMO.
Roland enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the casino’s, playing cards and spending time with family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters; Rhonda Brethorst of California, Missouri, Sandra Hattock of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Debbie Aaron and her husband Paul of Lansing, Kansas, one son; Gary Hattock of Raymore, one brother; Frank Hattock, Jr and his wife Verta of Punta Gorda, Floriday, one sister; Linda Kendrick and her husband Jerry of Tonganoxie, Kansas, one step brother; Rusty Stearns and his wife Barbara of Caldwell, Idaho, three step sisters; Jackie Doughitt of Leavenworth, Kansas, Barbara Millard and her husband Larry of Plano, Texas, and Bonnie Schillings and her husband Dale of Ozawkie, Kansas, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother; Naomi Hattock, and one great grandson; Jasper Brethorst.
Memorials in his name may be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

James Martin Concannon, Jr., aka “Blackie”, Leavenworth, passed away peacefully Monday, September 19, 2016 at his home, surrounded by family after a short battle with leukemia.
Jim Concannon was born March 21, 1940, son of James Martin Concannon, Sr. and Julia Wilson-Concannon.
He was preceded in death by his son Matthew Paul Concannon and a brother Michael Allen Concannon.
He was a 1958 graduate of Leavenworth High School. On June 5, 1958, Jim married Linnie F. Summers. Jim worked over 40 years at Tracy’s Autobody in Kansas City, Kansas and was an expert autobody man.
He is survived at home by his wife of 58 years, Linnie Concannon, a daughter Terri Concannon-Moore, two sons Mark James Concannon and James Michael Concannon, Leavenworth, Kansas, two grandsons, Cole Michael Concannon and Lucas Wade Moore, a granddaughter Casey Nicole Concannon and a sister Rita Cross, Austin, Texas.
Private family burial arrangements to be announced at a later date.

Larry Matzeder - IMAC Class of 1957
Lawrence “Larry” E. Matzeder, Leavenworth, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016 at his home. He was born September 25, 1939 to Edward and Rosemary Matzeder.
Larry was a 1957 graduate of Immaculata High School. On July 13, 1963 he married Shirley Loar (LHS Class of 1962).
His employment over the years were with South Side Market, Guys Foods Inc., Bordens, and Williams Foods. He served on the Ritual Team for the Eagles EERIE #55, was President of the Leavenworth Bowling Association for many years, and served on the Police Awards and the Veterans Day Parade Committee for many years.
Larry is survived by his wife, Shirley, a son, Steven Matzeder (Theresa) and granddaughters; Katherine and Mary, Las Vegas, NV, four brothers; Bernard (Jerry), Ronald (Ethel), Roger, of Leavenworth, Terry, Independence, MO and a sister Linda Philpot, Overland Park, KS. His parents and two brothers, Richard and Robert preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM, Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Davis Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be 10 AM, Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Mount Muncie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Partners of Kansas or Leavenworth County Humane Society.

Shirley Gwartney Morehead - LHS Class of 1952
Shirley Ruth Morehead age 80, of Osawatomie, Kansas died Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.
Shirley was born December 19, 1935 in Leavenworth, Kansas the second child of three born to James R. and Gladys (Freedle) Gwartney. She grew up in Easton, Kansas and attended grade school there. However she graduated from Leavenworth High School with the class of 1952 at the age of sixteen. She then went to the Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas and received her teaching degree in 1955. Later in life she attended floral design school.
On June 5, 1956 Shirley married Donald Hanes. The couple made their home in Ottawa and they became the parents of two daughters, Kimberly and Kelly. Shirley taught school in Ottawa for several years and Osawatomie. When the family moved to Illinois for a short time she also taught school. Shirley taught mostly grade school but throughout her teaching career she somehow managed to teach every grade.
In 1969 the family moved to Osawatomie, Kansas and purchased the Tilford Floral Shop and it became Hanes Florist and Greenhouse. Shirley continued to teach in Osawatomie for several more years and her husband ran the floral shop until their marriage ended and Shirley took over the shop.
Shirley married Rex Edward Cherry on September 24, 1976. They made their home in Osawatomie. After Rex retired from the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home he and Shirley worked together in the floral shop. Rex died on February 15, 1987 at the age of 67, they had been married for ten years.
On February 20, 1989 Shirley and James M. Morehead married in Olathe, Kansas and made their home in Osawatomie. Shirley and Jim enjoyed traveling and they journeyed all across the country, took a cruise and loved to take their grandkids on trips. With living next door to her daughter Kelly, Shirley was like a second mom to her grandkids. Family was very important to them. She and Jim were married for almost nine years, Jim died January 18, 1998.
Everyone in town knew Shirley, she not only had been a teacher in town but was a successful business woman and mentor to many. Helping anyone and everyone who needed a helping hand. From buying groceries for those without food to making flower arrangements for a funeral service at no charge when a family could not afford it.
Shirley was a strong supportive woman with a heart of gold and a selfless generosity. Shirley owned and operated Hanes Florist and Greenhouse until 2007 when she sold the business to DJ and Lori Needham.
Shirley was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Osawatomie, a member of the church choir, a member of the Delta Epsilon Society, and served as President on the Miami County Mental Health Board of Directors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and the father of her children.
She is survived by her daughters: Kimberly (Mike) Hodgson of Topeka, KS, Kelly (Jerry) Strait of Osawatomie, KS, and step-daughters: Dee Ellen Slayman of Osawatomie, KS and Jamie (Joe) Sasenick of Lenexa, KS, brother Dr.James(Amy)Gwartney of Tallahassee, FL and sister Dolores(Gene)Thompson of Leavenworth, KS. Grandchildren: Raymond, Mark, Michelle, Zachariah, Josh, Christina, Stephanie, John, Claire and numerous great grandchildren, along with many others who thought of her as a Grandma and a lifetime of friends.

100th Anniversary Celebration
Eunice Eichhorn Alexander (LHS Class of 1958), Maxine Hunter, John Bradford, Mike Nielsen, Chamber President Brandon Johannes and Mitch Stafford celebrate the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce.
