Ruth Slaughter Walker

Ruth Evelyn Walker, 80, of Topeka, died on October 29, 2017. She was born February 23, 1937 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Ruth was the daughter of George and Elizabeth Grable Slaughter.
She grew up in Wathena, Kansas, and graduated from Wathena High School in 1955.
On April 1, 1960, Ruth married Kenneth R. Walker (LHS Class of 1952), and they made their home in
Leavenworth, Kansas, until 2004 when they moved to Topeka, Kansas. Their marriage was blessed by two sons, Daniel R. Walker and Douglas K. Walker.
Dan and his wife, Leslie, have four children: Sarah Pederson (Jonathan Pederson) of Searcy, Arkansas, Jonathan Walker, David Walker, and Michael Walker of Topeka. Doug and his wife, Dana, have two children: Lucas Walker and Derek Walker all of Topeka.
Ruth was a Licensed Practical Nurse and later a Registered Nurse after receiving an associate’s degree of nursing from Kansas City Kansas Community College in 1978.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Georgia Mae Schiltz, and a brother, Jack Slaughter. She is survived by her husband Ken Walker of Topeka; two sons, Dan and Doug Walker, both of Topeka, two brothers, Carl Slaughter of McLouth, Kansas, and James Slaughter of Fairfield, California and six grandchildren.
Ruth accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord on December 1, 1951. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Topeka. The faithfulness of the Lord and the love and prayers of her family and friends were Ruth’s strength as she coped with multiple myeloma, an incurable bone marrow cancer.
Memorials can be made to the First Southern Baptist Church and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
Ruth's Celebration Of Life Ceremony will be Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka. Family will greet friends one hour before services, at 1:30 p.m. at the church. A visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at  Leavenworth Baptist Church.  Interment services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road,  Leavenworth, Kansas.
