He moved to Leavenworth while in the 5th grade and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1950. On April 30, 1953 he married Anna Merie Murawski (LHS Class of 1948).
Phil served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a Correctional Officer at the Leavenworth U.S. Penitentiary and retired with over 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Church of the Open Door and a lifetime member of the VFW and NRA. He was also a member of the Leavenworth County Historical Society and Federal Prison Retirees.
Phil enjoyed attending auctions, collecting antiques, gardening, KU basketball, trips to Colorado, and taking the grandchildren to Branson.
He is survived by his children, Gayle Brown of Parkville, MO and Bart (Gwendolyn) Brown of Bentonville, AR; four grandchildren, Sasha Bridges and Maryann Ball of Parkville, MO and Audrey and Claire Brown of Bentonville, AR; stepgrandchildren Desiree’ Brinkley of Charlotte, NC and Javan Carron of Bentonville, AR; and numerous nieces and nephews, He is also survived by brother Allen Brown (LHS Class of 1963) of Leavenworth, KS and sister Beverly Dawes of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Anna Merie.
Memorials may be given to Church of the Open Door. Family will receive friends 5 to 7 PM Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Pastor Damian Efta will officiate. Burial at Mount Muncie will follow. Mrs. Anna Merie Murawski Brown, 84, Leavenworth, KS passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at her home. She was born on August 2, 1930 to John and Merie Louise Lallier Murawski in Leavenworth, KS.
She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1948. On April 30, 1953 she married Philip M. Brown (LHS Class of 1950).
Anna Merie worked at Reyburn Agency, Hobbs Agency, and Schanze & Banks. She was a member of the Church of the Open Door, where she served as secretary for over 50 years. She served on the Leavenworth County Fair Board. She was a member of the Leavenworth County Historical Society and Federal Prison Retirees. She was a former leader for Leavenworth Leaders 4-H Club and Girl Scouts.
Anna Merie enjoyed ceramics, gardening, KU basketball, trips to Branson, and spoiling her granddaughters, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her loving husband, Phil; her children, Gayle Brown of Parkville, MO and Bart (Gwendolyn) Brown of Bentonville, AR; four grandchildren, Sasha Bridges and Maryann Ball of Parkville, MO and Audrey and Claire Brown of Bentonville, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by three brothers Fred (Mary) Murawski (LHS Class of 1952), Donald Murawski, and Gary (Linda) Murawski (LHS Class of 1962) of Leavenworth, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Edward Murawski.
Pallbearers with be Anna Merie’s nephews. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society or Church of the Open Door. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 20, 2014 in the Church of the Open Door.
