Anna Marie Van Veghten Leeper - LHS Class of 1950

Anna Marie Leeper, 87, of Leavenworth, Ks. passed away Thursday March 7, 2019. She was born January 30, 1932 in Leavenworth, Ks. to Anna Schwartz Van Veghten and James P. Van Veghten Sr. 
She is Survived by her two children, Jeffery L. Leeper and Leslie L. Bartoszek (Paul), two grand-daughters; Janelle B. Bartoszek and Jordaina B. Bartoszek, two pseudo grand-daughters Crysta M. Grinzinger and Vanessa N. Hall ,as well as, Theodore Robert Leeper- her dog and constant companion. She was proceeded in death by both parents, husband, Robert C. Leeper, Eileen E. Nester (Tillman), Dorothy L. Hulsey, and James P. Van Veghten Jr. 
After graduating Leavenworth High School in 1950, she worked at Star Studio in downtown Leavenworth developing photographs and tinting them by hand. On February 4th, 1956 she married Robert C. Leeper. She retired from Fort Leavenworth in 1992. 
Anna Marie was always the dreamer and lover of the arts. She enjoyed painting, photography, and crocheting. Together Robert and Anna Marie traveled everywhere from Niagara Falls to California. Their favorite vacation spot was Colorado. Anna Marie was an avid reader and loved sharing and talking about her vast library. She was a member of Eagles Aerie #55 and the Greater Kansas City Jim Beam Club. 
Donations can be made to the ASPCA in her memory. Services will be held Friday March 15th from 1-3 pm at Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, Ks. Her children would like to thank family and friends for all the love and support during this trying time, as well as, Hospice Partners of Kansas for all their compassion and care.

Robert C. Leeper, 78, Leavenworth passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009. Robert, known as Bobby to loved ones, was born May 30, 1931 in Leavenworth the son of Ralph E. and Lillian (Martin) Leeper. In 1951 Robert joined the United States Navy. He served for four years and was stationed in the Philippines during the Korean War where he worked as a Seabee constructing airfields, and was later stationed in Adak, Alaska. After his tour of duty ended, he married his long-time sweetheart Anna Marie Van Veghten (LHS Class of 1950) on February 4, 1956. She survives him.
He is also survived by his son, Jeffrey L. Leeper (LHS Class of 1983), daughter, Leslie L. Bartoszek (LHS Class of 1985) and husband Paul L. Bartoszek, two granddaughters, Janelle B. Bartoszek and Jordaina B. Bartoszek and his sister, Freda Atkinson (LHS Class of 1950) along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Winifred Kant (LHS Class of 1948), and his brother, Richard Leeper.
After the Navy, Robert worked at Fort Leavenworth as Foreman of Roads and Grounds and later retired at that position.
During is life, Robert was an active member and past-master of King Solomon Lodge #10, V.F.W. Post 56, Eagles Aerie #55, American Legion Post 23 and was a past member of the Abdallah Shrine.
His hobbies included everything from gardening and lawn work, bird watching, fishing and hunting, woodworking and socializing with those around him. He was a very loving father and husband and always wanted to try to help those he cared about.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Davis Funeral Chapel with a Masonic service to immediately follow.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
