Celeste Colby Sims - LHS Class of 1952

Cornelia Celeste Colby was born in Leavenworth, Kansas to Carilla "Carl" Willis and Bertha Redd Colby. She accepted Christ at an early age, influenced also by her grandfather, Rev. Charles Redd.
As a result of her upbringing, Celeste implemented and passed down the three keys of living, known in our family as the IRS (Independence, Relationship with God and Social Security).
Celeste expressed, on numerous occasions, the blessing of ample Social Security.
Celeste gained independence as Valedictorian of her high school class and attended Chicago State University. Years later, she spoke of cherished memories with her brothers and sisters. She always enjoyed playing the piano and violin and she passed these talents on to each of her children and they in turn, to their children.
Celeste continued to pursue her relationship with God by assuming steadfastly her role in life as a loving grandmother, mother and wife, always rooted in Christ. Socially, she chose friends and spent her time wisely. Her social life included a devoted husband, the raising of four successful children and the pleasure and company of her grandchildren.
Celeste was secure in what she was able to accomplish with Jesus, happy to be with Him, no matter what the circumstances and faithful to the end.
Celeste left happily in spirit to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 16, 2002.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Floyd, Charlie and Jean and two sisters: Charlotte and Gladys.
She leaves cherished and fond memories with: her devoted husband, Carl Sims, Sr.; three sons: Charlie (Selda) White, Carl (Martha) Sims and Aaron (Andrea) Sims; one daughter, Cassandra (James) Jones; six grandchildren: Amena (Celeste) White, Jaleesa (Celeste) White, Jacqueline (Celeste) White, Chelsie Sims, Aaron Sims, Jr. and Akira Sims; many step-grandchildren; one brother, Joe; two sisters: Helen and Zerita; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
