Gerald A. (Jerry) Schwinn, 70, of Leavenworth died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Providence Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born March 2, 1934 in Springdale, the son of Adam A. and Margaret C. Sonefeldt Schwinn.
He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union #168 for over 40 years. Following his retirement he was employed by the Easton Bus Service, driving an activity bus, and farmed with his son on the Schwinn Produce Farm. He was a life-long member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Columbus-3rd Degree, Third Order of Lay Carmelites, Past President of the K-State Research and Extension Council, of which he was chairman for twelve years. He was a former 4-H Woodworking Leader, Kansas State Fair Woodworking Judge, and judged various other Counties' 4-H projects in Kansas .
He married Patricia L. Hund (LHS Class Of 1950) on April 23, 1955 at St Joseph Catholic Church, she survives at the home. Other survivors include three daughters, Margaret Ann Doherty, Plano TX, Mary Beth (Chuck) Schrader, Cameron, MO, Marti (Paul) Dupuis, Leavenworth, two sons Jay (Patti) Schwinn, Perkasie, PA , Joe (Helen) Schwinn, Leavenworth and thirteen grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by two brothers Jim (Helen) Schwinn, Pretty Prairie, KS and Larry ( Sharon ) Schwinn, Leavenworth . He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Elsie Harbour.
A Mass of Resurrection will be 10:00AM Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. David McEvoy, O.Carm. as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery . Visitation will be at the church from 5-8 PM Wednesday with a parish rosary at 7:00 PM. Memorials are requested to St. Joseph Church or Leavenworth Catholic Schools.
