Ron Hyde - LHS Class of 1954
Ronald Standish Hyde, age 68, passed away February 2, 2005 at his home in Easton, Kansas. He was born April 5, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Robert R and Berneta M (Standish) Hyde. Ron was a 1954 graduate of Leavenworth High School, and an Eagle Scout. He attended Park College, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Ron served in the 82nd Airborne Artillery Unit as a paratrooper from 1955 to 1958, after which he attended the University of Kansas. Ron retired in 1986 from the Federal Bureau of Prisons with over 26 years of service as a correctional counselor. He also farmed and raised polled Hereford cattle for 15 years on the family farm, "Hydeaway," in Easton, Kansas. Handball was Ron's favorite sport and pastime for 35 years. Ron married Rosalie (Ryan) Walton (LHS Class of 1961) on July 25, 1981, and lovingly helped raise her twin daughters, Annette and Christine, as his own. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; sisters, Gloria Boon (LHS Class of 1957) of Cleburne, Texas and Ann Hyde (LHS Class Of 1964) of Manhattan, Kansas; brother Thomas Hyde (LHS Class Of 1961) of Leavenworth, Kansas; and children and grandchildren, Annette and Padraig McGillycuddy, and their sons Liam Padraig and Conor Joseph, of Cypress, Texas and Christine and Christopher Waldschmidt, and their sons Ahren Jeffrey and Kai Josef, of Kansas City, Missouri. He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Father Terry Bruce will officiate at the Memorial Service for Ron at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, Kansas at 12:00 noon on February 5, 2005. A family visitation will precede the Memorial Service from 11:00 am to noon. Eulogies will be read by his sons-in-law Christopher Waldschmidt and Padraig McGillycuddy. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorials to Kansas City Hospice, 12006 West 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, Kansas 66215.
