Babs' Bulletin

Hello Classmates,
It has been a while since I have sent any information about Joane Manney Wyrick. Things for her have been moving along pretty good until yesterday. She received delivery a week ago of a handicap equipped van. Yesterday, she was exiting the van on the ramp and it tipped causing her to fall with the scooter on top of her. She has a broken left hip and was scheduled for surgery at the KU Med Center today. Joane was scheduled to resume her substitute teaching job yesterday. She had been looking forward to getting back into the main stream of life. She really hates missing out on the Chiefs first home game on Sunday too. Joane has had several hospital stays for various health problems these past months. She continues to maintain a very positive attitude. Having been on the staff at the Med Center for years in her capacity as Professor of Occupational Therapy, she has been assigned to the VIP ward. We visited her last night and they were taking very good care of her. I did not talk with her today, but she was scheduled for surgery sometime after noon today. She hopes to be dismissed in 4 or 5 days, but does not know where she will go. I will send an update when I get any information about that.Yesterday here we had summer like temperatures in the 80's. I played golf with the ladies league and it was great. I play again tomorrow at an invitational and it is to be cold, rainy, windy and in the upper 40's at tee time. Sometimes I wonder why I am doing this. Albert played today and it was nice. He is scheduled to play Friday and the temperature is to be in the upper 30's at tee time. He says he is going to call and cancel. Who is the smarter of the two of us????

Our class treasury is a little over $600. We will be needing some donations to get our 55th reunion under way. If any of you feel inclined, Bonnie Martin is our treasurer and will accept anything you can send.

I heard from Ed Wittmis about two books he read: Lickskillet, by Julius Cord (Clark Cord's brother ). Ed says it tells about the North end of Leavenworth. The 2nd book is about Bain City by Wolf Montgomery. Sounds like interesting reading about places we all know. Let me hear from you about what you are reading or anything you are doing that we can share with classmates. Hearing from you is like opening a door to our past.

We had a letter from classmate, Robert Schonherr. He wanted to know where the heck was Lenexa. I sent him a note with a map.

Time to go upstairs to dig out my long underwear for tomorrow morning.
Goodnight from Lenexa,
Barbara

PS Joane just called. Surgery went OK and she is, "High as hell on morphine feeling good."
