Babs' Bulletin

JANUARY - 2007

TO: CLASSMATES AND SPOUSES OF THE LHS CLASS OF 1952

And to make an end is to make a beginning - T.S.Eliot
WELCOME 2007

In our last newsletter, I asked what books you have been reading lately. Ed Wittmis sent his reading list: Lickskillet by Julius Cord (Clark Cord's - LHS Class of 1951 brother). Ed says it tells about the north end of Leavenworth. The 2nd book is about Bain City by Wolf Montgomery
(Note from The Old Man: Wolf died on January 14th. He led an interesting life. For more info about Wolf, click HERE.
) Should be interesting reading about places we all know.
MORE ABOUT CLASSMATES:

Mary Jo Natzke Pohzehl graduated from the Master Gardener class at her local Extension Office last March and has been involved in the Ready-Set-Grow program in the elementary schools. She also manned a booth at the county fair with an exhibit on bees and wasps and has agreed to coordinate the newsletter production team. The local hospital asked her group to design their courtyard into a healing garden.
Teddy Gordon Adams says their granddaughter is getting married this year. Teddy has been sidelined some with arthritis, but vows to attend our 55th reunion even if she needs a wheelchair. With that kind of resolve, how about the rest of you?
Cora Chambers Fisher is still working and is also the musician for the River Blvd. Baptist Church.
Marianne Jurgens Eschweiler is another classmate still working. She is a nurse at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland. Just learned she has a cottage on Lake Erie, has a boat and loves to play golf. A woman after my own heart.
Robert Schonherr is still at a retirement community in Washington, D.C. There are several fishing ponds there and he likes to fish. He set the record for catching the biggest fish from the ponds, an 8 pound bass. He wrote asking where Lenexa is located. He lived 18 years in Leavenworth and had never heard of it. Perhaps some of you are also curious about Lenexa. It is a community of approximately 40,000 located in Johnson County surrounded by Shawnee, Overland Park and Olathe to the south. (We are the spinach capital of the world.)
Ed Wittmis will be retiring on August 31st after 26 years with the Denton, TX school system. Ed loves to bowl in his spare time. Speaking of bowling, read about another classmate next.
Fred Murawski bowled a perfect game recently. Not only that, he had a hole-in-one this year. Mary told him to quit as he has no more challenges left. (See the article below.)

Thanks to the following classmates who have contributed in the last year to our newsletter fund: Carol Fluharty Simpson, Fred Kempin, Teddy Gordon Adams, Shirley Ruebhausen, George Berg, Ann Kelly Steele and Clara Flint Vanderstaay.

Our class treasury was a little over $600 the last time I checked. We really need help with operating expenses for our 55th reunion in September. Bonnie Chambers Martin is our treasurer. so if you feel inclined, she will accept anything you care to send.
