Wayne Orlowski - LHS Class of 1952

Wayne Frederick Orlowski was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on February 11, 1934, to Fred and Wilhelmina Orlowski. He died in Birmingham, AL on January 10, 2007 after a lengthy illness.
In 1957 Wayne graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, with a degree in mechanical engineering.
He married Margaret Mae Mealing (LHS Class of 1954) and worked on the Atlas missile in San Diego, California, and the Saturn 5 rocket in Huntsville, Alabama. Wayne won an award for a device to test the Moon Buggy which stimulated the moon's gravity, then worked in waste-water treatment, and in robotics in Birmingham.

Golf was a great joy in his life and he enjoyed playing many courses in the country including courses in St. Croix, Hawaii, California, Kansas, Alabama and Georgia.
Wayne loved his family. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Margaret Mae Mealing Orlowski; daughter, Margaret (Meg) Ann Orlowski Moore, her husband, Lee and children, Rachel Watson, Elaine and Raymond; daughter, Catherine Marie Orlowski Luft, husband, Ted and children, Madeline and Peter; sister, Elaine Dorothy Orlowski Solter, her husband, Harry, and sons, Alan and Fred; and many caring and helpful friends and neighbors.
We want to express our appreciation to the wonderful doctors and staff on the 7th floor of the Spain Wallace building at UAB Hospital for the 13 cherished years added to his golf playing. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 14, 2007 between 2 and 4 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. in their home at Greystone/North Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, www.kidney.org or 30 East 33rd St., NY, NY 10016.
