Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. John Bradley Hunt, 72, of Leavenworth, died peaceably on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Golden Living Nursing Center in Spring Hill, Kan., with two of his children at his side. He was born June 28, 1935, in Leavenworth the son of Gorman F. and Hortense (Sexton) Hunt.
John is survived by his children, Thomas (Kathey) Hunt, Laura (Shawn Weissenbach) Hunt, John (Diane) Hunt, Daniel (Kelly) Hunt, Charles Hunt, George Hunt, and Susanna (Gregg) Gean; his brother, Gorman Hunt; his in-laws, Roberta and James Sexton, Gene Forge and Fr. Michael Santa; and 12 grandchildren.
John received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1957. He married the late Ona Santa on July 8, 1961, at Immaculate Conception Church in Leavenworth. A Vietnam War veteran, he served as defense liaison officer for the United States Embassy in New Delhi, India. John also served at Fort Riley, Kan., the Pentagon, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., and Fort Bragg, N.C. In the later part of his career, John returned to Leavenworth, where he taught at the Command and General Staff College on Fort Leavenworth. After retiring from the military, John received his juris doctorate from the University of Kansas in 1982. He briefly practiced law and served as assistant county attorney in Leavenworth until he returned to the CGSC as a civilian instructor and researcher into the conduct of Operations Other than War.
John never met a pie he didn’t like.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Rev. John Maier as celebrant. Burial will follow with full military honors at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
