Arthur Atkinson

Arthur A. Atkinson, Leavenworth, 77, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Cushing Memorial Hospital.
Arthur was born July 24, 1930 in Jonesboro, Arkansas the son of Claude and Lena May Crowder Atkinson.
On September 1, 1974 he married Freda E. Leeper (LHS Class of 1950). She survives him.
Other survivors include – 1 daughter – Ann Brewer 1 son – Robert Atkinson 2 step sons – Eugene and Ellis Myracle 1 step daughter – Eilene McAlexander 10 grand children and 10 great grand children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Flossie Bridger.
He served in the United States Army from 1947 to 1969. During his time in the Army, Arthur served with the Corp of Engineers. He served in Bermuda, Hawaii, Korea, Vietnam, San Francisco, CA., Labrador, Alaska and Fort Leavenworth. He retired from the military after 23 years as a Sergeant First Class.
He became the Street Superintendent for the City of Leavenworth in 1969. He retired from the City in 1978. He also owned his own service station, worked for Lexaco, and was a Construction Supervisor at K.S.P.
He was a member of the American Legion #23, Masonic Lodge #10 and a lifetime member of Eagles #55 and V.F.W. Post #56.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM Monday, July 7, 2008 at the funeral chapel. Rev. Loren Drummond will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will follow at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Southern Heights United Methodist Church, 726 Muncie Rd. or the donor’s choice.
