Babs' Bulletin

SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER - 2OO8

TO: CLASSMATES AND SPOUSES OF THE LHS CLASS OF 1952

As I start writing this newsletter, it is the Labor Day weekend and we are at our vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks. Traditionally, it is recognized as the end of summer and a time of rest and relaxation...and that is just what we are doing - playing a little golf, enjoying the lake, reading and watching TV. Speaking of watching TV, we have been on a television overload. We watched the Olympics, the Democratic Convention and the Republican Convention - time for a break before the new fall programs begin!

The LHS Alumni Association is hosting a "Proud to be a Pioneer" event on September 26,2008,6:30 PM at the Riverfront Community Center. There will be a buffet dinner, DJ, dancing, silent auction for June Bugs and much more. The cost is $20. For more information, contact carol.ayers@usd453.org

Mini Reunion - September, 2009
There has been enough interest in from our classmates that plans for a mini reunion are in the works. Fourteen classmates met at the Leavenworth Country Club on Sunday the 24th of August for breakfast. We discussed plans for a mini reunion and set a date. This will in no way take the place of our 60th reunion in 2012. Most of our classmates will be celebrating their 75th birthday in 2009, so this will be a birthday party for us.
Our preliminary plan is to have a casual Friday night gathering and a dinner Saturday night at the LCC. The dates we have picked are September 12 and 13, 2009. The next newsletter will contain the specifics of time and cost, etc. Please plan to come join the party.

Classmate News:

o Doris Krekeler contacted us before our trip to Alaska. She thought we might be passing through Seattle where she lives and hoped we could meet somewhere. Unfortunately, Seattle was not on our itinerary as we flew into Fairbanks and ended in Vancouver. I did have a nice chat over the phone with Doris. Through her church, she still mentors Chinese university students. She stays active and sends her regards to all.

o By the way, our trip in June to Alaska was amazing!

o You may have noticed many Starbucks Coffee Houses have closed this year due to the economy. Another possibility for their closing may be that they can't compete with the Merritt Coffee Bean! Dick Merritt has coffee bean plants that have finally "grown up". He said that lots of his friends "baby sat" the plants over the years. This year they had to live outside but fared really well living in the cold weather. Dick lives in Mission Viejo, Califomia. How many cups of coffee have you brewed, Dick?

o The class says thank you to Jim & Peggy Oliver for their donation to our class
treasury.

o Joe Wallace has been trying to locate our "missing" classmates. He sent me some addresses for some of them and I sent the January newsletter to them. I enclosed a note asking them if they were members of the Class of '52 and sent my E-Mail address and home address for a reply. No one responded.

Since the writing of our last newsletter , we have lost two of our classmates.
