SPRINGFIELD, IL - Nancy Jane Snyder, 74, of Springfield passed from this life to a much better place at 12:55 am, Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at St. John's Hospice.
Nancy was born May 28, 1935, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter and only child of John "Buddy" and Virginia Murray Vosseler. Much of her adolescent life was also spent with her stepparents, Francis J. "Nick" Williams and Dorothy Vosseler.
She graduated from St. Joseph's Grade School, attended St. Mary Academy and Immaculata High School, and graduated from Leavenworth High School and the University of Kansas.
Nancy was married to Elmore W. "Bill" Snyder (LHS Class of 1953) on April 26, 1958, at St. Ignatius Chapel, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas by Chaplain Urban J. Wurm. Shortly after, they relocated to Ernest Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville, Newfoundland, Canada where Lt. Snyder was stationed and where she gave birth to two young ladies who at the time had dual American and Canadian citizenship. While visiting New York City on leave from Ernest Harmon, Nancy was chosen to appear on the very popular TV game show "The Price Is Right" and won several valuable prizes which are still retained by her family.
In 1961 Nancy and her husband relocated to Kansas City and were blessed with two sons during the succeeding five years. Bill was transferred to Springfield in early 1966 and they have lived here ever since.
She was a member of the Church of the Little Flower for over 43 years and was a part of the funeral choir with her husband for many years. She helped her husband own and operate PRN HealthCare Services, a private duty nursing agency in Springfield, for 35 years, and was secretary to attorney Frank R. Sullivan for seven years.
She is survived by her husband, Bill and by four children: Cecelia (Gary) Reside of Paducah, Kentucky; Amy Yeates of Springfield; Drew (Masumi) Snyder of Dayton, Ohio; and Sean (Kelly) Snyder of Auburn. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; Aaron, Nicholas and Rachel Reside; Cory, Tyler and Jordan Yeates; Grace, Olivia and Sophie Snyder.
Nancy had a great smile, and really enjoyed people as her many friends will attest to (when she made a friend it was for life.) She liked to party and loved to play bridge-The Church Ladies, Friendly Ladies, Little Flower Marathon, and Ursuline Group were among the bridge clubs she participated in. Nancy was deeply involved with and committed to her family and loved all of them dearly. She will be missed so much - God chose to take a good one from us.
Nancy enjoyed traveling and fulfilled a longtime desire to visit St. Peters in Rome with her husband last November.
Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Church of the Little Flower with a concelebrated funeral mass at Church of the Little Flower on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11 a.m.
Remains will be cremated with burial at Mt. Muncie Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Little Flower School or The Animal Protective League.
