Bill Berg - LHS Class of 1950

William A. “Bill” Berg, 77, a four year resident of Elk Grove Village, Ill., passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at his home surrounded by family. He was born was born September 14, 1932, in Leavenworth, Ks. the son of Walter and Mildred (Morton) Berg.
After serving in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War, he returned home to Leavenworth to marry Brenda Laura Brendlinger.

Bill worked for Aeronautical Radio, Inc. for 36½ years, then retired to Bella Vista, Ark. in June of 1993.  After retirement he was able to spend more time on the golf course, at the bowling alley and on the road traveling.
Bill's beloved wife of 53 years survives at the home. He is also survived by his children, Jeffrey W. Berg and Kathryn A. (Berg) Kaya; his grandsons, Nicholas W. Berg and Alexander M. Kaya; his younger sister, Betty Ann Hoppe (LHS Class of 1954) and her husband Raymond; and their children, Ray and Randy Hoppe and Ruth Ann Davis.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with a service at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Road (three blocks south of Biesterfield Road), Elk Grove Village.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, Leavenworth.  Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Leavenworth

  1. Bill & I met when I was about 11 yrs old and moved across the road from the Berg farm west of Leavenworth. We were buds along with Marvin Krueger, Jr Flint, Raymond (Bill's Sister Betty's Husband) Hoppe, Harold Burre, Norman Hund and rode our bikes all over the country, played baseball on 4-H team, hunted and went to country grade school and Leavenworht High School together. Bill was a grade ahead but I still got encluded in most guy things. He was a good friend and I am sorry we did not maintain closer ties after HS. Bill joined AF and me--Navy.
