She was born Nov. 28, 1937, in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., the daughter of the late Sgt. Robert Lang and Inez Hanna Lang. She attended Leavenworth schools and also took piano lessons at St. Mary’s College, Lansing, Kan.
She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of Independent Baptist Church in Leavenworth, and actively served in many capacitates of the church. She was well known for making dozens of pies for church dinners and helping in the kitchen and dining room. In the past she was the church historian and involved with the nursing home ministry. She was also a member of the Socialites, a Leavenworth Civic Club.
She was married to her high school sweetheart, Curtis Watkins (LHS Class of 1955, named in 2006 as one of LHS's 100 top atheletes) in Leavenworth, Kan., and they were married for 38 years. She traveled to Germany, Turkey, San Antonia, Greece, New Jersey, Texas, and Colorado Springs during their early years of military life.
Mrs. Watkins retired from Hallmark Cards after 21 years of service. After her retirement she worked as a monitor for the Eastern Bus Services for 15 years. She also worked as an in-home assistant for the elderly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Watkins in 1994, her parents Robert and Inez Lang, and her grandmother Louise Hanna. Survivors include three daughters, Goldie Watkins and (granddaughter Brandee), Leavenworth, Kan., Juanita Miller and husband Walter and (granddaughter Hanna) of Lorton, Va., and Vickie Brown and husband Clement and (Grandson Curtis Clement) of Hepzibah, Ga.
Also surviving are five brothers, Robert Lang (LHS Class of 1957) and wife Cathy of Leavenworth, Kan., Donald Lang (LHS Class of 1964) of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Ronald Lang (LHS Class of 1964) and wife Carolyn of Lawrence, Kan., Leon Lang (LHS Class of 1967) and wife Patricia of Kansas City, Mo., and Leo Lang (LHS Class of 1967) and wife Debbie of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
She leaves her mother-in-law Juanita Lallis, brothers-in-law, David Watkins, and Phillips Lallis.
She also leaves behind many other relatives and friends.
