James P. VanVeghten Jr., 67, of Dysart, Iowa, died Friday, August 6, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa, of congestive heart failure.
He was born June 28, 1943, in Leavenworth, Kansas, son of James P. and Anna Schwartz VanVeghten. He married Gloria Winchell (LHS Class of 1959) Sept. 19, 1968, in Miami, Oklahoma.
Jim graduated from Immaculata High School in Leavenworth. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-64. He was employed with Geiger Ready Mix for 33 years, retiring as plant manager in Leavenworth in 2005.
Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Stephanie (Chad) Seuser of Buckingham; four grandsons; and a sister, Ann Marie Leeper (LHS Class of 1950) of Leavenworth.
Preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters, Eileen "Sis" Nester and Dorothy "Tootie" Hulsey; and a brother-in-law, Robert Leeper.
Celebration of Life: will be held at a later date in Leavenworth. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.
