Paul Gunther - LHS Class of 1955

Paul Gunther, 73, a Northland resident in Kansas City, Mo passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his home. He was born December 10, 1936 in Leavenworth, KS to George E. and Ida Mae (Neeley) Gunther. He attended Leavenworth High School and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served two tours of duty.
Paul was of the Presbyterian faith and most recently attended the Pine Ridge Church in the Northland. He was a longtime restaurant owner and Executive Chef in the Kansas City area. He spent the majority of his career with Lotties and Gunther’s Fine Foods.
He married Dale Sharon Johnson on June 15, 1974 in Pittsburgh, PA. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Matthew P. Gunther and wife Tara of Kansas City North; two daughters, Gretchen L. Gunther of Kansas City North and Cheryl Reding and husband Craig of Leavenworth, KS; two granddaughters, Abigail Gunther and Sarah Jackson; two nephews, Paul R. Gunther and wife Mary of Germantown, MD and Geoffrey Gunther and wife Krystal of Wichita, KS. His parents and two brothers, Charles and George Richard Gunther (LHS Class Of 1949) preceded him in death.
The family would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Szilagye, the staff of NorthCare Hospice and members of Pine Ridge Church for the special care, attention and prayers they gave to Paul.
A funeral service celebrating Paul’s life will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, October 22, at the Pine Ridge Church with Rev. Jim Gordon officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to North Kansas City Hospital Home Health, NorthCare Hospice or the Brain Injury Assoc. of Kansas City.
