OCTOBER 2010 NEWSLETTER
TO: CLASSMATES AND SPOUSES OF THE LHS CLASS OF 1952
With the midterm election quickly approaching on November 2, the television and newspapers are full of articles about Americans angry about the economy. We all probably know someone who has lost a job, can’t find a job, trouble selling a home, lost a home, investments tanking and our SS frozen. There must be better days ahead!
With all of that gloom and doom bombarding us every day, how about planning something fun like our 60th reunion in 2012? I sent out an E-mail to classmates asking if anyone was interested and l received a yes from a number of you, so we will start planning for this event.
The LHS Alumni Association is raising money for an 8' bronze Pioneer Statue to be given as a gift in honor of the opening of Pioneer Stadium and the renovating of the High School. Michael Young, a local artist has been commissioned to design the statue. The Alumni Association would like to commission the artist by Dec. 1, 2010. The amount needed for this project is $60,000. So far $6,163 has been raised. Donations are being tallied by Class Year. The Class of ’52 has 0 donations. The goal set for each class is $1,000 and if this is reached, a plaque will be placed on the back of the stature. The statue will be placed on High School property at the corner of Marion & 10th Ave. Unveiling is planned for the fall of 2011. If you would like to contribute to the project or have questions, contact: Carol Ayres at 913.684.1400 or carol.ayres@usd453.org
Class Notes:
• The class has received funds for the newsletter from Evelyn Hane Gwartney and Jim Oliver.
• Ben Robertson is still active in the work force as an associate Athletic Director. He has a grandson that is a pretty fair HS football kicker and has several colleges interested in him.
• Robert Schonherr sends his regards to classmates. He was good friends with Charles Cooley, who passed away Oct. 27, 2009. Through our newsletter, Robert found out about his old friend.
• Jim Oliver and wife Peggy are planning a trip in January to Panama, Honduras & Costa Rica. Seems Jim recovered from his 4 hip surgeries on the same hip.
• We have lost 3 classmates since the March newsletter:

Final Thoughts: NOTHING SUCKS MORE THAN THAT MOMENT DURING AN ARGUMENT WHEN YOU REALIZE YOU'RE WRONG.
