Ellen Jean Tyson, age 79, from Leavenworth, Kansas (where she resided for over 72 years), died peacefully on March 20, 2013, in Athens, Greece. Ellen was born September 5, 1934 in Leavenworth to John Robert and Laura Irene (Rodenburg) Cornett. Ellen was a devoted life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church & School of Leavenworth, as were her parents and grandparents.
Ellen is survived by her three children: Dale (& Pamela) Kellison, Debra Malto and Benson Malto; and Denise (& Dimitrios) Flokos. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Chalain (& Paul) Glade, Sara Brewer, Travis (& Amanda) Malto, Justin (& Kara) Malto, Christopher (& Ciarra) Malto, and Sean Malto. Four great-grandchildren also survive her: Amara Brewer, Mason and Zach Glade, and Sydney Malto. Ellen had two sisters, both of whom survive her: Shirley Redding (LHS Class of 1949) and Ruth Werner (LHS Class of 1956).
Ellen was preceded in death by both of her husbands: Medford Oscar Kellison (LHS Class of 1953), and Willie Tyson (LHS Class of 1953).
The Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church (311 N. 7th St; Leavenworth, KS 66048). In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established at St. Paul Lutheran Church & School.
