Bob Goff - LHS Class of 1950

Robert Malin (Bob) Goff passed away on Friday, June 26 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS, after an extended illness. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30 at Calvary Baptist Church, 4451 10th Avenue, Leavenworth, KS, with services on Wednesday, July 1, at 11:00 a.m., at the church. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Leavenworth.
Bob was born on December 5, 1931 to Ralph and Lydia Goff in Leavenworth. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry (LHS Class of 1958). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Orlowski (LHS Class of 1950), of the home; one son, Michael (Bobbi) of Leawood, KS; granddaughter Erin (Brett) Lambert of Leawood, KS; grandson Jared (fiancé-Kayla Kerschen), Lawrence, KS; and a very special great-granddaughter, Leslie Charlotte Lambert. He is also survived by his brother Ray (LHS Class of 1948) (Mary Ann) of Olathe, KS.
Bob was absolutely devoted to his Lord and to his family. He was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church and held the oldest membership longevity in the church. Throughout his many years of service to the Lord, Bob held the position of Deacon and was recently appointed as Deacon Emeritus of the church. He also served as Church Moderator, Sunday School teacher, Junior BYF leader, AWANA leader, and many other positions too numerous to mention. Bob also mentored several young men in the church over the past several years.
Bob was very active in the Voice of the Martyrs program and had served as that group’s Kansas State Representative. He and his wife visited many churches locally and across the state speaking on the history of Christian martyrs worldwide.
Bob attended Leavenworth schools and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1950. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and served four years. After his discharge, he worked at Fort Leavenworth and held the position of Graphics Chief and later head of Training Aids-Strategic Operations. He retired in 1986 after 36 years of combined service.
In addition to his love for his church, Bob had a love of woodcarving and was well known locally and nationally for his beautiful realistic wildfowl carvings. After his retirement, he was commissioned by Brigadier General Sullivan to carve a life-sized eagle for the Trophy Lounge in Bell Hall at Fort Leavenworth. That carving is still being displayed in the reception area of the Lewis & Clark instructional facility at Fort Leavenworth.
Bob also had a passion for sports. He was a diehard fan of the University of Kansas Jayhawks and was a season-ticket holder for many years for Jayhawk football and basketball. He coached his son’s youth football, basketball and baseball teams and spent many an evening and weekend on a baseball diamond or in a gym.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Robert M. Goff Memorial Fund, Calvary Baptist Church, 4451 10th Avenue, Leavenworth, KS 66048. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS and Twin Oaks Rehabilitation Center, Leavenworth, for their care of Bob over these past few weeks.
