Melvin Byron Light, 82, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2015 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born February 19, 1933 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Marvin F. and Ora Eudora (Gifford) Light, Sr. He lived the majority of his life in Leavenworth, Atchison, and Kansas City, Kansas while working in Civil Service at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas his whole career, retiring in 1986.
Melvin is survived by his son, Michael D. Light and his wife Gwynn, St. Joseph, Missouri; granddaughter, Lexi Light, St. Joseph, Missouri; and sister Marilyn Vance (LHS Class of 1956), Leavenworth, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Marvin F. Light, Jr. and sister, Marjorie Wood (LHS class of 1959).
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P. M. Monday, June 29,2015 at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
