Paul was a graduate of Leavenworth High School
Class of 1957 and also held degrees from The University of Kansas, Emporia State University, and Graceland College. He received a teaching degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University. He was fluent in five languages and loved the written and spoken word. Family legend tells of Paul occasionally cursing in a foreign language when frustrated but never in English for his family to understand.
He was a retired member of the Air Force (1961-1965). During his years of service he was stationed in Bloomington, Indiana where he received Russian instruction, then Alaska and Berlin. He traveled to Russia several times with Heart to Heart Foundation and Community of Christ. Having traveled extensively, he appreciated other people and felt a great fondness for different cultures.
Paul dedicated his life to serving God and to welcoming all people into his life and his home. He was a lifetime member of Community of Christ. If a quote could sum up Paul's life view it would be, “If you are more fortunate than others, build a longer table, not a higher fence.” He especially felt the importance of educating children and making sure all children felt loved and appreciated. In his later years, he worked as an ESL teacher for the Lansing School District.
Paul is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lilly Dorsey (Goodin), his three sons Michael Dorsey, Frank Dorsey (Sarah Mathews), and Robert Dorsey, and his “princess” granddaughter Alice Mathews Dorsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Linly and Mildred Dorsey and his sister, Anna.
A graveside service will be held June 14th, 2:30, at Leavenworth National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held June 24th, 2:00 at the Leavenworth Community of Christ Church, 1100 Halderman, Leavenworth.
