Shirley A. Pendergraft passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Twin Oaks Independent Living Center with her family all around her.
Shirley was born on July 4, 1937 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She was the daughter of Adolph Sass and Nellie (Gray) Sass. Shirley attended rural grade school and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1955.
She married O.B. Pendergraft on June 1, 1957. Shirley worked for Mutual Savings and Loan, Easton Bus Service as a bus driver and secretary at Salt Creek Valley School. Shirley then went to work at the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Department where she was a deputy for 27 years. After retirement she went to work in security at the Leavenworth County Justice Center.
Shirley was a member of the Easton United Methodist Church where she was a very active member.
Shirley enjoyed traveling with her husband before his death. She always enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, her sister and family and her church family.
After moving into Twin Oaks Independent Living Center Shirley made many friends who she enjoyed spending time with.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, O. B. Pendergraft and brother in law , Albert Ernzen. Survivors include her sons, Doyle (Leanne) Pendergraft, Dale (Celeste) Pendergraft and daughter, Denise Bardroff, fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, her sister, Dolores Ernzen and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be given to Twin Oaks, Lansing, Kansas or Leavenworth County Humane Society.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 from 3 to 7 PM at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Graveside service with burial following will be held 10 AM Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in the Easton Cemetery, Easton, Kansas.
